While I was feeding and playing with the chinnies on February 4, I noticed that Krishna was mounting Radha. Since I was expecting Radha to deliver at any time, I took this as a sign that she was starting to open and was very likely to deliver sometime in the night. I separated them immediately to prevent breedback, though the little rascal may have gotten her pregnant again even BEFORE she delivered... I went in to check on everyone the next morning and was a little surprised when there was no baby in with Radha. I started to look in on Krishna to see how he was holding up, as he REALLY hates being separated from Radha, even if it's only by a "wall" of 1/2" by 1" wire. His house has a large hole chewed out at the bottom and I saw a little kit run out. As I started to open the cage door, the kit ran back through the hole. I caught the baby and laughed. Radha's deliveries always seem to throw me some surprise or another! You see, my birthing cages are really long cages with a divider in the middle. When Mom and Dad are together, the divider is up so that they have full run of the cage. When Mom is about to deliver or has delivered, I put the divider down to separate and prevent breedback. There is a very small area at the bottom of the wire where it doesn't quite touch the flooring. The baby must have wiggled its way under there to see Dad!
Krishna and Radha produced a gorgeous Dark Ebony (Possibly TOV) boy weighing in at 45 grams at birth.
